Bio
Dick and Duane (Richie Cohen and Duane Tragis) are a funny and sexy comedy duo. The two met as teenagers, fell in love and exchanged rings from a gumball machine. But finding their soulmate (and a cheap apartment) so early in life was not enough. They decided to follow in the footsteps of other married duos like Burns & Allen, Stiller & Meara and Sonny & Cher, becoming the first husband and husband comedy team.
The Dick and Duane™ brand has been referred to as “Dorothy and Rose of The Golden Girls meet porn stars François Sagat and Francesco D’Macho by way of Andy Kaufman and the Smothers Brothers.” (OK, nobody ever actually said that except Dick and Duane themselves, but it sounded pretty good, huh?). They’re part traditional burlesque comics, part old-school stand-up comedy team, part 1970s variety show and part vintage gay porn. They’re neither glamorous, fabulous, A-list, nor concerned with celebrity gossip. But what they do best is to skewer and deconstruct the art of comedy itself while shattering preconceived notions of married gay couples.
The duo got their start as the late-night after-show for the Chippendales dancers in New York, doing a 1960s-style faux-lounge act. Eventually, the pair established themselves in the performance art and alternative comedy world of NYC’s Lower East Side, before moving up to more mainstream venues, headlining at comedy clubs from New York to Tokyo and at major gay events. Along the way, they starred in their own theatrical shows (including their recently sold out Never Too Much at the Laurie Beechman Theatre), were hired as performers/writers for the long-running USA network TV show Up All Night and created several television pilots.
Dick and Duane are currently developing their web series, Fun With Dick and Duane, based on the real-life, sitcom-like experiences they share each day with their sizable Facebook audience. And when performing live, each show is dedicated to Dawn, their Egyptian Mau, who controls their thoughts, desires and actions.
